NGO concerned over climate change, suggest measures to Collector

MARGAO: The Federation of Rainbow Warriors (FRW) on Friday handed a representation to the District Collector of South Goa requesting him to take seriously the grave dangers of climate change and also to spread the message regarding the ills of the change.
The FRW has asked the Government through the Collector to take seriously the grave dangers of climate change, not just to the humans, but to the entire planet, due to the “wrong policies” taken by the government.
In its letter, FRW has urged the Collector to send the representation to the Chief Secretary and to the Government for their information and action.
“We also ask for your personal intervention to spread this important message and to take whatever steps you can, within your capacities and powers, to help save our children from the unsustainable development policies that we are blindly following, which are the reason for this existential threat to all of us,” the memorandum reads as.
“The steps Goa Government needs to take immediately are stop all tree felling, except to protect properties and lives; stop all filling of low-lying lands and cutting of hills; protect all our water and land resources, especially plateaus, forests, coastal areas and agricultural lands by banning all land use changes (stop all conversions under Land Revenue Code, 1968, or otherwise),” said Abhijit Prabhudessai of Rainbow Warriors.
The Collector has acknowledged the letter and has also agreed to the fact that climate change is indeed a problem which affects all.
