PANJIM: In the wake of reported incidents of child sexual abuse, NGO Udant has developed a module titled ‘Life skill education’ for school children which essentially comprises sex education with the intent of preparing them to get out of harm’s way.
President Anita Pereira said the project has begun in various schools for students from Class V to X across Bardez taluka and will cover Mormugao, Tiswadi and Salcete talukas in the coming days.
“We have divided the program into three parts comprising students from Class V to X, VIII to IX and Class X. Our approach has to be different depending on their age,” she said.
For V to VII graders, the NGO has developed three simple formats ~ Run, Yell and Tell’ (RYT), I am Beautiful and Changes in the Body.
Pereira, who is mentoring the project, said that basics like ‘good touch’ and ‘bad touch’ are taught to children to gauge the intention of the offender.
“We teach students a simple solution if they encounter an attempt of sexual assault or misbehaviour. We tell them to shout at a person who is trying to grope him or her, yell at him, run from the place and tell parents or teachers about the incident,” she revealed.
