MARGAO: Criticising the government over the sorry state of affairs at Hospicio, Margao, Save Golden Goa has demanded that facilities at the South Goa hospital be put in place immediately.
The NGO thanked the Government for providing doctors at Hospicio but at the same flayed it for failing to provide a backup.
Taking a dig at the government, Camilo Barreto of Save Golden Goa charged saying “The CT scan machine is not functional for 4 months and the eye testing machine has been not working since the last 2 months. Medical fitness certificates are available only on Mondays and Thursdays. For the last 2 years, the Hospicio morgue, which can accommodate 18-24 bodies, is non-functional,” Barreto further claimed.
“Now, Government is starting a new scheme Deen Dayal Swasthya Seva Yojana. If Hospicio is not functioning properly than this scheme is useless,” he added.
“Only one patient and baby are allowed in the maternity ward and no parents are allowed to help them, he further informed.
The NGO further claimed saying, “There is shortage of beds and bedsheets. The pharmacy is open only for 6 hours a day. It should be a round-the-clock pharmacy.”
“Patients are told to return after 15 days to collect the blood test report. “Even for minor injuries, patients are referred to GMC in an ambulance,” Barreto said, adding that “Hospicio is encountered with the problem of constant power cuts.”
“In the absence of a temporary shed, during registrations, patients are forced to stand outside during monsoon. There is no separate queue for senior citizens and pregnant women,” he added.
