NGO levelled false charges, claims CWC member

PANJIM: Days after a local NGO complained against South Goa’s Child Welfare Committee (CWC) of stigmatizing its lawyer, the committee member has claimed the allegations are levelled with an ulterior motive.

“The dramatic allegations levelled against the chairperson are specifically denied as false, and were levelled with an ulterior motive to portray the chairperson in a wrong angle and no such rude, stigmatic and discriminatory incident occur at CWC-S as posted,” a letter by committee head Lida Joao said.

Her reaction comes following allegations made by Advocate Maria Vas, working with an NGO Anyay Rahit Zindagi (ARZ) over the alleged ill-treatment in the office of CWC-S. Vas, a Vasco resident, had approached the office to complete formalities of orphan siblings when she alleged that she had to face humiliation and stigma from a CWC member.

Joao rubbished the allegation stating “…as a chairperson with due diligence, confidence and with a conscience to work towards society’s good, and not with miscellaneous interests in mind and has always implemented the Juvenile Justice Act and Juvenile Justice Rules…”
