MARGAO: City-based NGOs on Saturday came out strongly against SGPDA’s proposal to introduce pay-parking in the market from July 1, saying the decision will unnecessarily overburden the innocent tax payers.

Expressing shock over the SGPDA’s decision on pay-parking, General Secretary of United Goans Welfare Front Laurel Abranches said the PDA can have pay-parking slots after proper demarcation for two-wheelers and four-wheelers on the SGPDA exhibition-cum-parking grounds. “The parking proposal will unnecessarily overburden the pockets of innocent tax payers who are already overburdened with heavy taxes, water and power bills, property taxes, business taxes etc. There’s no control by government authorities over daily increase in basic amenities and food prices,” he added.

Abranches said a day is not far when some fanatic government authority may come out with ideas of pay-parking at hospitals, next to schools, police stations, churches and temples. Some politicians have already ruined our once beautiful Goa and turned it into a real estate mafia,”      he said.
