PANJIM: NGO Savera on Thursday filed a complaint with the Director of Vigilance alleging corruption and misappropriation of funds against a minister, police officials and contractor involved in supplying food to policemen on BRICS duty.
“It’s a huge scam and as per media reports, we have learnt that Rs 52 lakh were spent on food provided to 5000 police personnel on BRICS duty and this budget had been fixed by the ministers and the officials in the department,” Tara Kerkar said.
“If we order biryani at wholesale rate it costs around Rs 70 per person and here they charged Rs 105 per person. The breakfast that was provided to them will not cost more than Rs 30 per person and they have charged Rs 50 per person and for the provisions for a day they have shown Rs 250 per person,” she added.
She said all the food provided was dry in nature and difficult to digest and there was only one bottle of water provided to the police for the entire day and they were asked to work for more than 12 hours with no place for them to rest.
Stating that Savera has been actively working as a watchdog against corruption and injustice in the State she demanded a detailed investigation in the tendering process and also whether proper tenders were invited from other caterers.
