PANJIM: Vasco-based NGO Savera apprehends that the young lady constable, who succumbed to a suicide attempt earlier this month, could have been a victim of blackmail by an ‘unknown man’. The NGO has written to Crime Branch (CB) seeking a detailed inquiry into the episode as nude photos, suspected to be of the constable, are being circulated on social media.
The 20-year-old Anjuna resident was a new Goa Police recruit. She had reported sick on February 1 after she consumed poison and died at Goa Medical College four days later.
“A lady constable committed suicide by consuming rat poison; the case has been transferred to your department. After her death (her) nude photos along with unknown male are being circulated over the social media such as Facebook, Whats App etc…. She has left behind a family which also has an unmarried sister (and) circulation of such photos is bringing ill respect to the family members…” NGO president Tara Kerkar said in the letter to CB.
The activist has demanded action against the guilty as she ‘feels the unknown male in the photos could have been blackmailing the deceased forcing her to committee suicide’. “There is also a possibility that the photos were leaked and other person might be blackmailing her,” she said urging that the circulation of the photos be stopped.
A CB official admitted receiving the complaint stating they will inquire into the matter. “The complainant has provided us evidence of the alleged nude photos of the two adults. We will conduct an inquiry,” he said.
