MARGAO: Accusing the PWD of patching up the road stretch from Cuncolim bus stand to Danddewado with red mud, the Green Goa Foundation has claimed that the road has turned slippery due to monsoon. The NGO has threatened to approach court if the department fails to provide an immediate solution to the problem.
The GGF informed that a lady Martinha Hilaria Pereira, who was walking along the stretch, slipped and fell on muddy road and a bus reportedly ran over her. The lady suffered grievous injuries and later succumbed.
“Martinha Hilaria Pereira met with the accident and expired due to negligence and carelessness shown by the PWD. Your office failed in performing its duties in fixing the said road by making it safe for pedestrians. Martinha lost her life. The trauma and loss suffered by her family members is due to PWD,” GGF said in a complaint.
The GGF has demanded immediate inspection of the said stretch by intimating them and tarring the same by making it safe for pedestrians.
GGF has requested the PWD to take departmental action and initiate criminal proceedings against officers and the contractor responsible for the negligence and carelessness, failing which the NGO has threatened to file a writ petition in High Court for making the road a death trap for the motorists/pedestrians.
