NGO urges Goa Police to increase vigilance

PANJIM: Hope Foundation, an NGO has written to Goa Police urging to increase vigilance in St Cruz after the horrific attack on a house and property at St Cruz that killed one. 

NGO President Andrea Pereira met officiating Director General of Police Jaspal Singh with the request letter that also pointed out to involvement of underage into the crime. 

“We as an NGO and a resident of St Cruz request you to increase the vigilance and to have more patrolling as there could be some budding criminals who have been in contact with these gangsters. This crime took place during the wee hours even though the lockdown, people are not allowed to move out from 9 pm to 5 am,” the letter states. 

The attack on under trial Imran Bepari’s house during the early hours of Saturday saw the death of a fellow gang member who was accidentally shot in his chest. The police have arrested over a dozen persons including three minors, and recovered country made pistols, swords and choppers. 

The NGO has raised the possibility about their involvement into drug menace. 

“We villagers are peace loving people and we deserve peace so I request you to safeguard the safety of the citizens and help save future of our children…Also ensure that the era of 90s in St Cruz, Merces and Chimbel is not recreated,” the letter adds.
