PANJIM: Fudle Pilge Khatir, an NGO, has urged the President of India Droupadi Murmu to direct the Indian Navy to facilitate access to the Anjediva Island, for the people of Goa to celebrate feast of Our Lady of Springs, scheduled on February 2, and also the feast of St Francis of Assisi in October this year.
In a letter written to the President, the Fudle Pilge Khatir President Jack Mascarenhas stated that the Anjediva Island located off the coast of Canacona Taluka in Arabian Sea is currently under the Naval jurisdiction. For many centuries the people of Goa had been celebrating feasts of Our Lady of Springs on February 2 and St Francis of Assisi on October 4.
However, since naval occupation of the island few years ago, access to the church and chapel on the island are denied to the devotees and people. In spite of several attempts for the past many years, the people did not receive desirable access to the island.
