MARGAO: At the meeting of the district road safety committee, concerned citizens and NGOs working towards road safety have urged the government authorities to have trauma facilities in order to provide immediate treatment.
On Monday, committee held a meeting at South Goa District Collectorate complex wherein several issues pertaining to road safety were discussed in lengthy.
Speaking to reporters, Lorna Fernandes of GOACAN informed them that they have demanded to initiate action against the encroachment along the Navelim road, resulting in abstractions to the traffic and general public.
“Fish vendors, besides several others squat along the road side and transact business, however, this has resulted in major abstractions to the traffic and public. The numbers of vendors on the road side are increasing on a daily basis and hence there is an urgent need to act by the concerned authorities. We have asked the South Goa Collector to issue instructions to remove all those vendors along the road side,”she informed.
She also stated that the concerned authorities failed to activate the transport committee with regard to transportation of school children.
“We have demanded the list of the transport committee,” said Fernandes.
The issue pertaining to health services was also discussed at the meeting wherein immediate trauma facility was demanded.
“Authorities are supposed to provide trauma centers. What is shocking is that every time we hear about the accident, the patient is being shifted from the district hospital to Goa Medical College. If that is the case then what are the facilities being provided at the district hospital pertaining to trauma?” she questioned.
She said that every primary health center needs to have some sought of facilities to deal with the trauma or whatever is needed as an immediate treatment.
“Authorities are stating that they have done the compliance but in reality no compliance,” stated Fernandes.
