VASCO: NGOs have demanded immediate stoppage of import of bauxite to the MPT berth following complaints over its handling at the berth.
The bauxite import and handling at MPT Berth No 10 has always been in the news with regards to dust pollution in the past. Yet again, MPT is in the news for the same reason, which has now caused massive dust pollution. NGOs such as Goa First and Savera from Vasco have demanded relief from the dust pollution and have called upon the authorities to have mercy on the people of Vasco especially those from Khariwado and adjoining areas.
Goa First has alleged that Bauxite ore is manually unloaded at the berth causing dust pollution in an around Vasco. Dust even settles on the food packets of labourers employed at the fishing jetty 200 meters away from unloading point.
“The Goa Pollution Control Board however is passive on this issue. We demand that immediate action be taken against the bauxite unloading activity at Berth No 10, “the NGO demanded and expected an immediate site inspection.
