NGPDA issues stop work order to resort at Candolim

PANJIM: The North Goa Planning and Development Authority (NGPDA) has issued stop work order to Whispering Palms Beach Resort, Candolim for undertaking construction in violation of Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) guidelines.

The order has been issued following a complaint from locals regarding construction carried out without taking any permission from the NGPDA. “You are directed to stop the construction of work, till the time, production of the documents along with the approval copies are submitted to the authorities,” NGPDA member secretary R K Pandita said in his order.
When contacted, NGPDA chairman Michael Lobo said that the construction has been undertaken in violation of CRZ rules and Goa Land Development and Building Construction Rules.
Lobo said a site inspection will be done next week and until then the stop work order remains in force. “The Land Survey department will be also asked to submit a detailed survey report,” he said.
Whispering Palms Beach Resort has been directed to submit the project plan and all approved licenses received from the competent authorities, including NGPDA and local panchayat.
Pandita said that failure to submit the documents will force the authorities to take further action without notice.
The copy of the stop work order has been forwarded to Candolim panchayat and Calangute police station to ensure that the ongoing construction work is stopped until further directions. Police have been asked to keep strict vigil on the site.
