PANJIM: The National Green Tribunal (NGT) on Friday declined Goa BJP Vice President Anil Hoble’s plea that he be allowed to temporarily run the bar and restaurant and retail outlet along the Ribandar-Panjim causeway. NGT has fixed Hoble’s review petition for final hearing on November 4.
On a complaint filed by Adv Aires Rodrigues, the Excise Commissioner by an order on June 19 suspended the two excise licenses after it was pointed out that NGT had held that all of Hoble’s structures were illegal and had ordered their demolition.
NGT on May 29, 2015, ordering the demolition of several of Hoble’s illegal structures, including the River Lounge the Bar and Restaurant along the Ribandar-Panjim causeway for violating various provisions of the environmental law had directed Hoble to pay a fine of Rs 20 lakh within six weeks for destroying mangroves and for illegal land filling in violation of environment laws.
Hoble later filed a petition before the Bombay High Court seeking a stay of the NGT order which was dismissed after which he filed two petitions before the Supreme Court which also came to be dismissed as withdrawn.
Hoble later filed a review petition before the NGT and the payment of the Rs 20 lakh fine has been stayed till the final disposal of the review petition.
