PANJIM: The National Green Tribunal (NGT), Western Bench on Tuesday directed its Registry to issue show cause notice to the member secretary of the Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA) for failing to comply with the tribunal order with regards to an alleged illegal hotel construction.

The Bench raised ‘great concern’ over the GCZMA representative’s failure to appear before them during the hearing on Tuesday. The matter is listed for further consideration on November 21.

The Bench was hearing a plea filed by Goa Paryawaran Savrakshan Sangharsh Samitee against M/s Govia Resorts Pvt Ltd and others.

The Green Bench noted that through its previous order dated August 22, a committee was constituted with a direction that it shall make spot visit in presence of the parties and ascertain the factual condition on the spot with respect to the illegal construction and submit its report within a period of three weeks. The GCZMA was made member of the joint committee.

“The report is still awaited. It is a matter of great concern that none has appeared from the side of respondent-GCZMA,” the Bench said.

The NGT directed the Registry to issue show cause notice to the Member Secretary of GCZMA as to “why no-one has appeared today nor any report has been submitted in compliance of this Tribunal’s order dated August 22”.
