NGT order has vindicated our stand, says CVF

Petitioners in the National Green Tribunal (NGT) matter against the proposed training wall at the mouth of River Sal, Cavelossim Villagers Forum (CVF) has said the NGT order has vindicated their stand.

It may be recalled that fishermen have been demanding for the project under the Fisheries Department given the problems they face navigating the mouth of the River that extends upto the Arabian Sea. CVF was however critical of the allegations made against them by Benaulim MLA Churchill Alemao, which they termed as baseless and unjustifiable.

“Churchill is so ignorant of laws for those projects which the Government decided to implement without following due process and yet he considered himself doing development works,” said CVF. “This NGT order reveals the illegality committed by starting implementation of the project,” CVF added, while referring to the expansion of the Cutbona jetty as well.

“Such illegal projects cannot be implemented due to non-compliance of law but instead of correcting mistakes, Churchill blames others including NGOs and activists,” CVF added.
