PANJIM: National Green Tribunal (NGT) Principal Bench has questioned the Goa government for the delay in demarcating and notifying private forest area in the State.
Goa government had sought additional time for completion of the work stating the committee has already been constituted to review the private forest findings of the Sawant and Karapurkar committee as per NGT directions.
However, the tribunal declined to grant any time stating “in our view, the time already taken by the Committee was sufficient and report ought to have been submitted by now”.
NGT has direct the Chief Conservator of Forests to appear before them to explain the work already done by the Committee and the reason for which the same could not be completed, after a lapse of three years.
As reported earlier, limited resources and manpower had hit the functioning of the nine-member Private Forest Review Committee, which is been granted extension of six month till March 31, 2019 to submit its report.
