MARGAO: In connection with the appeal filed by the representatives of a Varca-based restaurant, bar and dance hall, the National Green Tribunal’s (NGT), Principal Bench in New Delhi, passed an conditional order staying the demolition of the disputed part of the structure until a verification exercise is carried out.

While NGT stated that the appellant has not made out a case to show that the structures in question are beyond the No Development Zone (NDZ), it gave the appellant an opportunity, by way of precaution, to file a clear statement about the structures which they say are beyond the NDZ.

This has to be submitted to the Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA) within 15 days, indicating the basis for such a claim. GCZMA was also asked to verify the same with the assistance of National Centre for Sustainable Coastal Management (NCSCM), Chennai at the cost of the project proponent, within two months.

It added that further action may be taken based on NCSCM’s report and a fresh order be passed thereafter.  The appellant was asked to demolish such structures which they admitted to be within NDZ.  They were also allowed to take remedies against the fresh order.
