NGT vacates stay on Colva project

PANJIM: In a major relief to Goa government’s tourism initiative, the National Green Tribunal (NGT) on Friday vacated a long pending stay on the Rs 17.23 crore Colva Coastal Circuit infrastructure development project that government claims would modernize facilities at South Goa beaches.

The plan was already sanctioned for Rs 8 crore under the Central Finance Assistance from the Ministry of Tourism. Project developers Bharat Vikas Group had already started the work before it was halted due to a stay from the NGT in mid-2014. During the hearing, the NGT was told that the work was undertaken pursuant to Central government funding.
