The decision was taken at a special meeting convened by North Goa Truck and Tipper Owners Association near Pale Panchayat in Bicholim taluka. The meeting was chaired by its president Mahesh Gawas and members Suresh Desai, Satosh Naik, Sandeep Parab, Balaji Desai, Prakash Gawas, Shyam Gauthkar and Yeshwant Desai were present.
Addressing the gathering, Association President Mahesh Gawas said the State government has totally failed to solve the mining issue despite the ban being lifted by the Supreme Court nine months ago.
“Government authorities are not bothered about the mining dependents who are facing financial crunch created due to ban on mining. The members have decided to go on indefinite hunger strike if the State government does not decide on its stand on restarting mining activities in Goa within seven days,”
warned Gawas.
A member, Santosh Naik, alleged that the dumped ore is being transported by taking into confidence very few truck owners, which is injustice to others. He also urged the government to decide e-auction rates within seven days.
Another member, Suresh Desai, said the mining imbroglio has devastated the lives of mining affected components and demanded with the State government to take initiative without wasting any more time.
