PANJIM: North Goa Zilla Panchayat (NGZP) members on Tuesday expressed confidence that before the end of this financial year, the zilla panchayats in the State will have more powers, rights and funds, as assured by the BJP-led government.
The NGZP general body met under the chairmanship of Ankita Navelkar on Tuesday. Newly-appointed CEO Gurudas Pilankar guided the ZP members on their rights and duties. The meeting discussed various pending development works in each of the 25 ZP constituencies.
Speaking to Herald after the meeting, Navelkar said the general body passed no specific resolution, apart from focusing on undertaking development works.
“The CEO was informed about the various problems faced by the members regarding getting NOCs and approvals from departments. A request was put forth to ensure speedy grant of approvals for development works,” she said.
Navelkar said that during the meeting, they were informed that with the government assuring more grants, it is expected that by the end of January next year, an amount of Rs 30 lakh may be granted to every ZP member.
“Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar, as well as the new Panchayat Minister Rajendra Arlekar, assured that more powers, rights and grants would be given to ZPs. We are hopeful that the same will be done before end of the financial year,” she said.
