Nigerian escapes from Mapusa detention centre

FRRO conducting an independent inquiry into his escape

PANJIM: A 28-year old Nigerian national, on Friday, escaped from the detention centre at Mapusa, where he was lodged.
Aminu Kanumuhammed, who was arrested by Anti Narcotic Cell (ANC) of Goa police on January 17,  escaped from the detention centre. His absence was realised when the staffer went for round.
A police complaint has been filed at Mapusa police station. The Foreign Regional Registration Office (FRRO) is also conducting their independent inquiry.
Sources said that that Kanumuhammed was arrested by ANC, after he was caught having no documents and staying illegally in Goa. “He was lodged in detention centre since January 17,” sources said. 
Meanwhile, FRRO is inquiring how the Nigerian escaped. More details of the incident are awaited as police are tight lipped.
“Inquiry into whether the staff at detention centre are hand in gloves with the Nigerian. All are being questioned and other inmates will also be quizzed on whether the Nigerian had any plans,” sources said.
FRRO teams are conducting a site check if any structure like wall, window, toilets are damaged to find out how he escaped.
