Nigerian held with drugs worth Rs 74.75 lakh

PANJIM: The Anti Narcotics Cell (ANC) of the Goa Police arrested a 56-year-old Nigerian for allegedly possessing drugs worth Rs 74.75 lakh.

According to the police, the Anti-Narcotic Cell conducted a  narcotic raid at Arpora and arrested the Nigerian national with the drugs.

The accused identified as Innocent Okezuonu Anaemem, native of Uburu-Ekwe, Abuja, Nigeria, and presently residing at Arpora, was arrested for allegedly being in possession of 480 grams of cocaine worth Rs 72 lakh, 15 grams of Ecstasy powder worth Rs 1.50 lakh and 250 grams of Charas worth Rs 1.25 lakh.

The accused was on the ANC radar for quite some time and his movements were closely monitored at his prominent hang out.

Police revealed that the accused is a history sheeter and has three cases registered in Goa against him and the same are pending trial before the courts. 

In 2013, the accused was arrested in the infamous National Highway Blockade case at “O” Coqueiro junction, Porvorim. Further, he was arrested for overstaying without legal documents and was lodged at detention center, Mapusa. 

The 3rd case was registered against the accused while he was lodged at the detention center where he assaulted an employee.

The raid was led by PSI Pravin Shimepurushkar along with Head Constable Pramod Kalangutkar, constables Nitesh Mulgaonkar, Sandesh Volvoikar, Laxman Mhamal, Mandar Naik, Makarand Ghadi, Amit Salunke and driver Kundan Patekar under the supervision of PI ANC Sajith Pillai.
