PANJIM: The Foreigner’s Regional Registration Office (FRRO) here in Goa is set to begin a drive to deport foreign nationals overstaying in Goa commencing with Nigerians in the wake of the recent case of rioting that occurred earlier in North Goa this week.
Speaking to the Herald Superintendent of Police, Tony Fernandes, at the FRRO said, “So far there have been 52 arrests made of Nigerians in the recent incident and once we get a report from the respective police station investigating the matter we will start the process for deporting those who need to be.”
The FRRO is expecting further arrests and action deemed necessary from the FRRO for deporting the offenders is in the offing.
Fernandes said that since 2010 around 11 Nigerians had been deported. Likewise several cases against other foreign nationals namely Russians, Israelis, Uzbeks and Ukrainians are also under process. While some are staying illegally in Goa, others have been involved in criminal offences and so on.
A report has been sought for from the North and South district police and accordingly action sought would be taken.
