Night life must remain shut until COVID is under control: Min

PANJIM: Calangute MLA and Ports Minister Michael Lobo has demanded that night life activity in the tourist State should remain shut until the spread of COVID-19 in the country is fully under control.

“Goa is a world famous destination for its nightlife. The tourism industry has been shut down and I feel that it should continue to be closed till COVID-19 situation in the country is under control. Once we see COVID-19 cases across India are in decline, economic activity can restart,” said Lobo, while speaking to the media persons, on Monday.

He added when the tourism activity eventually restarts in the coastal State, it should be done in a phased and planned manner wherein only the activities that are considered safe should be allowed to open first.

By ‘safe’, he was speaking in context of what can spread the infection and measures that need to be taken to ensure all COVID safety norms and SOPs are followed.

Lobo gave an example of how when hotels restart, guests should compulsory carry a COVID negative certificate and abide by all the prevailing COVID protocols.

Speaking about the impact of COVID on the economy, he said it would take at least another year for the economy to come back on track.
