MARGAO: Yet another night soil tanker was caught at the Verna plateau discharging waste water from the waste treatment plant located at Chicalim.
On Saturday, villagers managed to catch one tanker driver red handed releasing the waste water in the Loutolim village panchayat area, followed by complaint to the police.
After investigation it was revealed that the tanker had brought the waste water from the waste treatment plant at Chicalim. The Village panchayat of Lotoulim has warned of stern action if such activities are repeated in their jurisdiction. This is the fourth such incident wherein night soil tankers are found discharging waste water at Verna plateau.
Maina-Curtorim police immediately booked an offence against the tanker driver on late Saturday evening.
Speaking to OHeraldo, Ramiro Mascarenhas alleged that this act is a total negligence on the part of concerned authorities since no action has been taken despite repeated incidents.
“In the past similar incidents were reported in the jurisdiction of the village panchayat Lotoulim. Taking into consideration the repeated incidents it looks like the culprits are given free hand to do whatever they want,” he alleged.
He further informed that the Verna plateau has not only become a place to dump sewage and waste water but even to dump garbage.
“As a result of the continuous discharge of garbage and waste water, several springs and wells have become polluted in the vicinity. And hence, at the end people are suffering from all the mess,” Mascarenhas added.
As alleged by the citizens, one of the local political leaders from Chicalim is involved in the nuisance.
Joana Fernandes, Sarpanch of Village Panchayat Lotoulim stated that the panchayat have imposed a fine on the tanker driver and warned of stern action in future.
