PANJIM/CORTALIM: Travelling along the National Highway 17 between Panjim and Verna turned out to be a nightmare for hundreds of motorists on Saturday afternoon, as traffic jams held up vehicular traffic for hours. Serpentine queues were witnessed at Bambolim, Agassaim, Cortalim junction and at Verna leaving motorists fuming.
While some motorists complained that checking of vehicles at the police booth at Cortalim had caused the traffic jam, others attributed it to the two mega musical festivals in north Goa which kicked off from Saturday evening.
Motorists fumed that the traffic jams lasted over an hour with many grumbling that they had to waste a lot of time getting across the Zuari Bridge to reach to their destinations.
Verna police put down the reason for the traffic jam to the checking of vehicles at the Cortalim junction and not because of the mega musical festivals in North Goa.
The vehicles proceeding towards Vasco, Panjim, Margao and Loutolim had to be let off in a phased manner at the Cortalim junction. This added to the traffic jam, police said adding that they managed to clear the mess within an hour.
