MAPUSA: Verla Canca Panchayat on Thursday demolished nine illegal shops along the Parra-Mapusa route at Canca under police protection. It may be recalled that Goa Foundation had filed a petition in the High Court against these encroachments. The HC had directed the panchayat to remove the structures.
Accordingly, the Verla-Canca Panchayat had issued orders to demolish the shops. Meanwhile, the owner of a shop claimed that the demolition was carried without prior intimation.
“We got to know about the demolition from the people. We have not received any notice from the panchayat,” a shop owner added.
