NIO, ASCI to collaborate in aquaculture and fishery sciences

PANJIM: National Institute of Oceanography (CSIR-NIO), Goa has signed a five-year Memorandum of Understanding with Agricultural Skill Council of India (ASCI) for collaboration in capacity building programmes by bridging gaps and upgrading skills of local workers in aquaculture and fishery sciences.

PANJIM: National Institute of Oceanography (CSIR-NIO), Goa has signed a five-year Memorandum of Understanding with Agricultural Skill Council of India (ASCI) for collaboration in capacity building programmes by bridging gaps and upgrading skills of local workers in aquaculture and fishery sciences.
ASCI, is a sector skill council on agriculture and allied sector functioning under the aegis of National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship. 
“ASCI is supported by leading Industry players with an aim to create an eco-system for quality vocational education in agriculture and allied sectors to  meet the entire value chain’s requirements of trained manpower across all levels on a sustained and evolving basis,” a release says.
As per the MoU, programmes will be held as per the National Skill Qualification Framework (NSQF). “There will be assessment of trainees trained under different short-term skill based training programmess of CSIR-NIO,” it added.
The MoU mentions that both institutions will jointly develop skill development centres for training and capacity building across various segments of fisheries sectors and conduct skill gap analysis for the entire fishery segment in the country or the state.
“CSIR-NIO would support ASCI in the development of national occupational standards, qualification packs, curriculum and course content for various segments of fisheries in terms of the technical knowhow, validations and other necessities as per their requirements,” it adds.
