PANJIM: National Institute of Technology (NIT) Goa has established a start-up centre and plans an incubation centre in an attempt to provide solutions to the State’s problems.
NIT Director Prof G R C Reddy said the project is still at its initial stage but its launch will solve a variety of problems in the State and create job opportunities.
“We are planning to set up an Incubation Centre very soon. The objective is to address the problems of the State by providing relevant solutions. We will identify the local problems and try to sort them out. This will also create job opportunities,” he told Herald at the recently concluded Technival-2016 hosted by the institution that saw participation from over 200 colleges.
As he emphasized issues of innovation, Reddy revealed that the start-up centre would initially continue for three years and fund a maximum of 10 projects.
The Union Ministry of Human Resources Development would fund NIT Goa Rs 25 lakh and the Department of Science and Technology would contribute another Rs 25 lakh. The funding will be on an annual basis for three years. “Rs 25 lakh would be used as seed money and the other Rs 25 lakh for infrastructure,” an official said.
Goa IT Innovation Centre Director Jervis Pereira discussed how Goa, apart from its clichéd lifestyle, is still one of the major contributors in the field of IT.
