PANJIM: National Institute of Technology (NIT) Goa has collaborated with Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore to host an international conference on Current Trends in Non-Classical Mechanics on December 14-15.
The convention, the first in the institute in Goa will have world class academicians discussing recent trends in non-classical continuum mechanics as it will also offer a wide platform for those, who are into this field.
Speakers comprise renowned professors from UK and USA along with some from IITs including Professor John Foster, from the University of Texas at Austin, Prof Jani Romanoff from Alto University in Finland, Prof Pablo Seleson of Oak Ridge National Laboratory USA, Prof Pol Spanos of Rice University, Prof Arghya Deb and Prof L Ramachandra, from IIT Kharagpur; Prof Anurag Gupta, and Prof A Rajagopal, from IIT Kanpur and Hyderabad.
“It is indeed a challenging task on the part of the institute to bring together the world class scientists and researchers of mechanics under the same umbrella to give an impetus to the researchers in the field of mechanics,” an official of NIT Goa told Herald.
The conference will celebrate Professor J N Reddy’s 70th birthday – a collective initiative by Director, NIT Goa Prof G R C Reddy, and Bangalore IISc Prof Debasish Roy and Prof R  Vasu.
Prof Reddy is known for his research on mechanics of composite materials and computational methods, which deal with theoretical formulations and numerical analysis of problems in engineering. He is a Regents’ Professor and inaugural holder of the Oscar S Wyatt Endowed Chair in Mechanical Engineering at Texas A&M University, College Station, Texas, USA.
