National Institute of Technology (NIT) Goa has announced it will adopt four State-run schools to educate them with the latest gadgets in science and technology under the Rashtriya Avishkar Abhiyan (RAA) – a unique concept developed by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) last year.
NIT Director Prof G R C Reddy said students will be allowed to spend time at the institute and receive hands-on training on application-based knowledge from faculty members. The project will commence this summer during the vacation.
“NIT Goa is steering all these initiatives under its temporary academic complex. We are ready to work for the State by imparting knowledge, technology and intellectual consultancy to the State Electricity Board,” he said at the final round of Young Spark 2016, a state level quiz competition and workshop for school students, on Monday.
State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) Director Nagaraj Honnekeri, also present at the function along with Education Secretary Virendra Kumar and others, added that RAA will empower the State through dissemination of knowledge and technology.
At the event, Founder of Androcid Media Pvt Ltd, North Goa Prajyot Mainkar taught attending students on the making of android software while demonstrating text messages and calls sent through an android phone. “This was extremely beneficial for the students as they were exposed to core technology,” an official said.
Under the national education mission, which was launched by former President of India Late A P J Abdul Kalam, government schools will be mentored by institutes like IITs, IIMs, IISERs, Central Universities and reputed organizations through innovative programs, student exchanges, demonstrations, student visits, etc to develop a passion for learning science and maths.
