PANJIM: In appreciation of meritorious service, the Government of India has declared President’s Fire Service Medal for Meritorious Service to Director Fire and Emergency Services Nitin V Raiker, which will be presented to him, on Thursday, on the occasion of Independence Day.
Raiker joined the Directorate of Fire and Emergency Services on January 3, 1991 as Assistant Station Fire Officer and was subsequently promoted to the post of Station Fire Officer (SFO), Assistant Divisional Officer and Deputy Director (Fire Services). He has held the Director, Fire and Emergency Service post since October 1, 2021.
During his tenure in the department, he has undergone Sub-Officers Course, Station Officer and Instructors course and Divisional Officer Course (DOC) from the National Fire Service College, Nagpur. He has passed DOC in distinction and secured a Gold Medal.
He was the member of the team which was deputed at earthquake affected area of Kutch district in Gujarat by the State government to carry out rescue and relief operations.
He was awarded an Appreciation Certificate by the Gujarat government and a Commendatory Note by the Director of Fire and Emergency Services and an Appreciation Certificate by the Indian Red Cross Society, for his excellent efforts put up by him during the rescue and relief operation at Gujarat.
Raiker was also awarded Chief Ministers Fire Service Medal for Meritorious Service on the occasion of Goa Liberation Day in 2008. During his 33 years of service, he has supervised various major fire and emergency incidents, and was instrumental in saving the life and public property. In appreciation of his outstanding duties he was awarded an appreciation certificate by the South Goa Collectoron various occasions. He was also awarded Commendatory Note, Appreciation Certificate and Certificate of Merit on various occasions.
During the ensuing extreme heavy rainfall from June 1, 2024 till date, the overall incidents across the State were very well coordinated by Raiker. As a proactive measure, the Director briefed all the fire stations across the State to be in a state of readiness for any eventuality for search, rescue, uprooting of trees and any other incidents.
