Nishant Kumar, son of Nitish Kumar, formally joined Janata Dal (United) on Sunday and said he would work to strengthen the party’s organisation.
The engineering graduate in his 40s was inducted into the party at its headquarters in Patna in the presence of senior leaders including Rajiv Ranjan Singh and Sanjay Jha.

After joining the party, Nishant said his father’s decision to move to the Rajya Sabha was a personal one and that the family respects it. He added that he would continue working under his father’s guidance.
Nishant also praised his father’s work in Bihar over the last two decades, saying the people of the state would always remember his contributions to development.
He thanked party leaders and supporters for their trust and said he would take the development work done in the state to the masses.
Party workers gave Nishant a grand welcome at the JD(U) office, waving party flags and beating drums.
Speculation has also been growing that Nishant could be considered for the deputy chief minister’s post in the new government.
