ANJUNA: The murky and illegal business of literally razing a hillside on Comunidade land, for a third-party supervised suspected illegal nightclub, may have temporarily stopped. But neither the panchayat nor the Comunidade is showing signs of expediting the only official complaint against the activity.
Despite knowing that a third party, and not even the gaonkars who have applied for the lease on that land, are destroying the land to construct what appears to be a nightclub, the authorities are dragging their feet. It is now clear why a member of the panchayat had asked the Herald reporter, on the day of the site inspection “not to drag the issue”.
While the Anjuna Village Panchayat has scheduled their body meeting only on November 18, the Anjuna Comunidade and Deputy Collector Bardez are yet to act on the same.
Meanwhile, when contacted by the complainant activist DJ, this is what he said, “This is not something private. This is government land and it’s the concerned authority that needs to act.”
He said, “As an active citizen I have bought the issue before them. After a month I will put up an RTI which will reveal what actions are actually taken,” DJ said.
It can be recalled that last Monday, around 2000 sq mts of hill in Small Vagator was allegedly destroyed for the access road and further construction of a suspected nightclub in Anjuna village, and in this regard, a DJ cum activist, Gambino had lodged a complaint with concerned authorities including Deputy Collector Bardez, Mamlatdar Bardez, Forest Conservator, Comunidade, TCP and local Anjuna-Caisua Village Panchayat for immediate action.
The development was being carried out by cutting a large number of trees and the hill on a slope in a blatant and brazen manner right under the nose of the concerned authority including the Comunidade and panchayat.
Acting on the same, the panchayat then issued a stop work order and conducted the inspection.
