No application of mind: Power Dept forgets to lay 11 kv cable in Tuem

Electricity Department will now have to dig the road once again to lay the cable

PERNEM: Since the onset of monsoon, the villagers of Tuem have been compelled to commute on the pathetic village road dug up to lay underground electricity cables. They were expecting that the road would be hot-mixed at the earliest, but their hopes were dashed, when the Electricity Department realised that it had covered the road and forgot to lay the 11 kv cable while undertaking the underground power cabling work.

The 11 kv cable is supposed to provide uninterrupted power supply to the village. However, negligence on part of the Electricity Department will now delay the road repair work as the department will have to dig the road once again to lay the cable.

“The road is already in a pathetic condition. The villagers spent the last three monsoon months commuting on this bad road and now the department officials have realised that they have not laid the 11 kv cable, which is supposed to provide uninterrupted power supply to the village,” Deputy Sarpanch Nilesh Kandolkar said.

“The Electricity Department is now asking the panchayat to write a letter to take up the cabling work as they feel that now if they dig the road then people will not remain silent. But the panchayat has no role to play here. The 33 kv cable has been laid but the 11 kv cabling work is pending. The Electricity Department is completely responsible for this and they will solve the issue at the earliest. We want the cable to be laid before taking up the road repair work,” Kandolkar demanded.
