No beds in GMC for COVID patients

Beds available in other government and private hospitals

PANJIM: As the Covid-19 pandemic continues to hit Goa badly, Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC) has been left without any bed for coronavirus patients. As on date, there are 113 beds available in government and private hospitals to treat serious COVID19 patients.

As per the information shared by the State government on its online portal www.goaonline.gov.in, as on Saturday, there are 87 beds available in government-run hospitals, while five private hospitals have 26 beds.

The Sub-district Hospital, Ponda has 38 beds available, while 34 are available in the North Goa District Hospital, Mapusa. 

The South Goa district hospital can also provide beds to another 10 patients and in ESI, Margao there are five beds available. 

Several videos and pictures have been going viral on social media platforms, wherein patients are seen lying on the floors of the government hospitals in absence of beds. 

Herald, in its Saturday edition highlighted the grim situation at the South Goa District Hospital. 

The bed availability in private hospitals is Dr Kedar hospital, Panaji (15), Campal Clinic (5), Classic Hospital, Margao (3), Savaikar hospital, Ponda (2) and Borkar Nursing, Margao (1).
