No breakthrough in Bansai shootout, police question 25 people

“Five people have been arrested in connection with various sand extraction cases and released on bail. We will get a breakthrough in the shooting case soon,” said SP Tavares.

QUEPEM: The Curchorem police have interrogated around 25 suspects in connection with the Bansai shooting and sand mining case that left one migrant labourer dead and another injured. The search for the shooter is still on, and the weapon used has not been found, nor has the make of the gun been identified.  Police sources told Herald that a similar shooting incident was reported at the same location, during sand extraction in the past, but it was not taken seriously, and no arrests were made at the time.

While the investigation has gone on for the past three days, several senior police officials camped at the Curchorem police station on Saturday, including police Superintendent Samy Tavares, along with the DGP, DySP and personnel from the crime branch At Sanguem, interrogations of suspects by IRB personnel continued till late on Friday. “Five people have been arrested in connection with various sand extraction cases and released on bail. We will get a breakthrough in the shooting case soon,” said SP Tavares.
