PANJIM: Unlike the 2012 Assembly elections when unclaimed currency notes and “gifts” were seized during the campaign, the Chief Electoral Office (CEO) has not come across any such incident this time, thanks mainly to demonetisation.
“There are two reasons, our team (flying squads and police teams including para military forces) is extra efficient and demonetizaton,” CEO Kunal told the media confirming that people have not yet reported “cash distribution” to election officials.
“We received just one complaint as on date but our investigation did not find anything concrete,” he told Herald.
“Election officials, including the police and 40 companies of CRPF jawans, are already on the job. Vehicles are being checked and goods without documents are being seized. A close watch is also being kept on political rallies, meetings besides candidates and trouble mongers,” the officer said.
Meanwhile, the CEO has approved 7 of 9 election jingles of the State BJP. “We have sought for clarification on certain points in the remaining jingles,” he said.
