VASCO: Traffic policemen attached to Vasco traffic police will give the forthcoming Shigmotsav float parade in Vasco a miss as they have been assigned tasks at the DefExpo at Quitoll.
Sources informed Herald that the Vasco traffic cell officials received a note from police headquarters on Friday asking them to inform the Murgaon Nagrik Shigmotsav Samiti (MNSS) that they would have to manage the float parade celebrations on their own as Goa Police won’t be available as the men in uniform have been assigned to the DefExpo. The float parade in Vasco is scheduled to be held on March 29.
Confirming this MNSS president Shekhar Khadapkar said he received such a message from Traffic Police Inspector Sudesh Narvekar and they are now looking at other options to make alternative arrangements. “It was sudden shock for us to learn that traffic policemen are being diverted to the DefExpo and we won’t have them to regulate traffic this year. I have requested the PI traffic to provide a few policemen to regulate traffic at key locations but to be on the safer side we have decided to use 50 members to regulate traffic,” Khadapkar told Herald.
Addressing the media on Saturday MNSS members gave details of several cultural and entertainment programmes for the week long Shigmostav celebrations. The festival will kick off on March 24 with Dhulivandan (Holi) at 7 am from the Lord Damodar temple in Vasco. The next day there will be Dashavatari Natak at 7 pm opposite MMC building. On March 26, there will be an orchestra at 7 pm and on March 27 there will be a Rangoli competition and Lavni dance programme. The float parade will be on March 29 and on March 30, the last day, there will be a Marathi Drama.
