MARGAO: Colva Police are pursuing vital clues in the case of murder of Baptisto D’Costa, as the postmortem report clearly indicates that it was murder. The police are also probing different angles, with the Deputy Superintendent of Police Raju Raut Dessai practically stationed at the station.
The postmortem conducted by Dr Andre Fernandes at Goa Medical College, clearly states that death was due to a sharp injury on the neck. Incidentally, Baptisto had one deep cut and another small cut on his neck when his body was found.
Baptisto lives in a flat with his wife and they did not have any children. His wife was the last known person to speak to him as she had called him at around 10:30 pm on Sunday, since he did not return home, as he usually returned home by 10 pm. He reportedly told his wife that he was coming but was involved in some business discussions.
Baptisto had 17 two-wheelers that rented out, besides having two Innova vehicles that were used as taxis; one Maruti Swift vehicle and a Maruti Omni, which he was driving on Sunday and was found close to the place where his body was found.
He reportedly collected two bottles of beers, one quarter of brandy and two water bottles from a bar at Colva and also took chicken tikka. The empty bottles and chicken-dish container were also found near his body. Baptisto was very well-known in Colva and was known to be quite generous, often sponsoring drinks to his friends. The gold bracelet and wedding ring were not found on his body, making the police believe that the items were stolen by the person who killed him.
Incidentally, his mobile too is missing and police cannot trace it as it is switched off.
