No license to massage parlours, decides Anjuna VP

With an increasing number of anti-social elements indulging in drugs, prostitution and destruction of beaches in the coastal belt, Almeida said that the village panchayat needs assistance from the government

ANJUNA: The Anjuna-Caisua Village Panchayat has stopped issuing licences for massage parlours for the last three years, said Sarpanch Savio Almeida.

Almeida said that under the pretext of starting Ayurveda, licences were obtained from the village panchayat and illegal activities were conducted without the knowledge of the panchayat.

“The Anjuna-Caisua Village Panchayat has taken a decision not to issue a licence to any massage parlours in our jurisdiction and that is why they ask for an Ayurveda licence,” he said.

Almeida said that the village panchayat is monitoring spas in the area and will take action against illegal activities. He appealed to the villagers to come forward with genuine cases of Illegality happening in the village.

With an increasing number of anti-social elements indulging in drugs, prostitution and destruction of beaches in the coastal belt, Almeida said that the village panchayat needs assistance from the government, as it lacks the machinery needed to tackle the situation.

“We are ready to work hand-in-hand with the government. Panchayat can only guide the departments as we don’t have the machinery to tackle these issues. If we intervene they may accuse us of trespassing but destruction has to be stopped. I will write to the government regarding this,” said Almeida.
