MARGAO: Clarifying that neither the contractor nor the South Goa Planning and Development Authority (SGPDA) are connected with the illegal fish selling activities outside the wholesale fish market, Milagres Fernandes, “Sopo” contractor of SGPDA, challenged the Margao Municipal Council and the local political leaders to act against all the migrants doing illegal business in Fatorda and also vendors selling fish outside the wholesale fish market.

He also said that the locals of Madel will act against the migrant fish vendors if MMC fails to take action.

Addressing the media persons on Friday, here, Milagres also charged Felix Gonsalves, president of Retail Fish Vendors Association, for carrying out illegal fish selling business at Madel, and collecting haftas from the migrants.

Reacting to the allegations by retail fish vendors from the SGPDA, Milagres said that no one in the wholesale fish market is involved in selling fish at retail price.

“Yes, there are nearly 300 migrant fish selling vendors seen doing illegal business outside the wholesale fish market and by the roadside for the whole day. However, they are not concerned about the SGPDA’s wholesale fish market. Actually the Margao Municipality needs to act against them because the civic body is collecting fees from those illegal fish selling vendors,” he alleged.

“The civic body, retail fish vendors and the local political leaders must take strict action not only against the migrants selling illegal fish outside the wholesale fish market but also against all the migrants doing illegal business in Fatorda,” he demanded.

Milagres further alleged that the area which was marked for parking facility opposite Kadamba Bus Stand at Margao is now helping migrants for illegal business activities, and hence the local politician and civic body should take action at the earliest.
