No MMC staff for Nat Games till SAG gives payment undertaking

Non-clearance of past dues of Rs 70K, forces MMC’s hand; MMC also short staffed, MMC driver posted on “election duty” to the collectorate for over an year

MARGAO: Keeping in mind the twin issues of unpaid bills and staff shortage, the Margao Municipal Council (MMC) has decided not to let any of its staff be deputed for the forthcoming National Games, until the hitches are ironed out.
MMC Chairperson Dr Babita Prabudessai pointed out that the Sports Authority of Goa (SAG) had not cleared a bill of Rs 70,000 for services rendered the last time.
The SAG now has prepared a list of work to be done by MMC, which amounts to Rs 7.7 lakh and MMC has agreed to initiate the work only if SAG gave an undertaking regarding the payment. Besides, they also proposed to hike the per trip amount from Rs 250 to Rs 2,500.
Meanwhile, MMC has appealed to the Collector to modulate and streamline the staff movement from each department for election duty in such a manner that it does not hamper routine office work.
The chairperson also pointed out that one municipal driver has been stationed at Matanhy Saldanha Administrative Complex for the past two years on election duty, but collects salary from MMC, while doing no work for the council.
