No nominations in Ponda taluka as yet

PONDA: The Zilla Panchayat election fever is yet to set in Ponda taluka with no candidates turning up at the Deputy Collector’s to file their nominations.

It’s been three days the staff at the Deputy Collector’s office are yet to receive nominations.

The MGP, BJP and Congress, which are likely to contest election, have selected candidates but have not yet finalised them.

Despite this, not a single Independent candidate has turned up to file nominations.

People feel that since ZP has no powers, this may be reason that many people are not turning up to file their nomination just like gram panchayat elections.

A local Vishal Fadte said compared to panchayat ward elections, the ZP seat comprises of many panchayats and funds are required to contest and reach out to voters, which is not possible for many. But for a political party-sponsored candidate it is easy because of the support of political leaders.

The Shiroda seat, which is reserved for ST, comprises of Shiroda and Panchawadi.
