No NOTA option for voters, AAP complains to SEC

Alleges serial numbers of voters were written behind each ballot paper, an attempt to disclose confidentiality of entire elections process

PANJIM: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Saturday lodged a complaint with the State Election Commission alleging a series of violations of the ongoing election code including absence of the mandatory None Of The Above (NOTA) option.

The complaint also mentions that serial numbers of the voters from the list were written behind each ballot paper, which is an attempt to disclose the confidentiality of the entire election process.

AAP Goa Convenor Rahul Mhambre, in a video message has said that the party received numerous phone calls from the voters complaining about the leaking of voters’ identity through ballot paper.

“It is a serious question about the conduct of the election in a free and fair manner. We have lodged a complaint with the Commission seeking clarification if this practice is legal and according to the rules and regulations,” he said.

The party also alleged that the ruling party violated the election code by holding meetings ahead of the Zilla Parishad elections and also had their banners displayed in public, while the election staff including the police remained mute spectator.

Mhambre also alleged that despite Supreme Court’s directives, the Zilla Parishad elections had no NOTA option for the voters.
