PANJIM: Indirectly ruling out possibility of drug overdose as the main cause of death of two Andhra natives, the Anti Narcotic Cell (ANC) of Goa Police on Sunday said that no case of narcotic abuse has been reported at the venue of Sunburn Klassique music festival held at Vagator.
Two Andhra Pradesh tourists, who were in Goa to attend the electronic dance music festival (EDM) died at the gate entrance, just before the opening of the festival on Friday. Though the post-mortem has been conducted, the cause of death is still under suspense pending viscera test.
In a press statement issued, ANC said that so far police has been successful in prevention of drug usage and no case of drug abuse has been reported at Sunburn, which was held between December 27-29.
ANC has further said that newly trained Dog Squad was being deployed to scan the premises of the venue and detect use of drugs. “Drug sniffer dogs have been deployed for the first time in a public event at Sunburn 2019,” ANC said.
Police said that three undercover teams of ANC were deployed inside the venue for active detection throughout the event.
It also informed about being tied up with Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) which has come with hi tech devices to detect and confirm drug presence.
Also, three tier frisking was placed at the gates under supervision of police staff.
The opposition Congress and Goa Forward Party has slammed government over its failure to curb drug menace at EDM events. Both have suspected drug overdose as the main cause of the death.
While Congress demanded probe through Special Investigating Team and resignation of tourism Minister Manohar Ajgaonkar, GFP urged government not to ensure that State is not promoted as drug destination.
