No place for tiatrists in Ravindra Bhavan General Council

MARGAO: Several tiatr artists and directors are upset with the government for not having any representation from the tiatr fraternity in the recently constituted General Council of the Ravindra Bhavan, Margao.

Tiatrist have claimed that 90 per cent share of the revenue generated at the Ravindra Bhavan at Margao is because of the tiatr shows and despite knowing this fact, the government failed to include tiatrists in the list of the General Council members.

It is pertinent to note that in the past at least one tiatrist would be present in the Council, constituted by the Government of Goa. Taking into consideration the contribution of the tiatrists in the State and towards the revenue generation, it was obvious that representation of the tiatr fraternity was a must.

Reacting on the list of Council members released by the government, many tiatrists claimed that those in the list are 100 percent politically connected and very few have art and culture background.

“I am shocked to notice that this time there is no representation of tiatrists in the main General Council. Considering the major contribution of the tiatrists in generating revenue for the Ravindra Bhavan, it is the duty of the government or the concerned department to include at least one tiatrist,” said tiatrist Francis de Tuem.

He further claimed that the major activities that are being performed at the Ravindra Bhavan, Margao are related to tiatr and it is a known fact, which cannot be denied by anybody.

He too was of the opinion that in the past, the Council would have at least one member having tiatr background.

Senior tiatr director Roseferns too is upset with the government decision.

“Taking into consideration the announcement of the General Council members of the Ravindra Bhavan, it looks like the government doesn’t want tiatrists. I don’t know the agenda of the government pertaining to sidelining the satirist, who is a major player in Goa’s art and culture scene,” he said.

However, Arnoldo Costa, President of ‘Konkani Non-Stop Tiatristanchi Sonstha’ said that it is up to the government to decide on whom to include in the General Council of the Ravindra Bhavan, Margao.
