Minister for Art and Culture Dayanand Mandrekar informed the House that government has not mooted any proposal to set up a Censor Board or any other such authority to censor scripts/stage performances in Goa by enacting the Licensing and Controlling places of Public Amusement (other than Cinema) and performances for Public Amusement Rules 2015.
Government also clarified that it has not received any recommendation from any organization for setting up censor boards.
The question was raised by Independent Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai.
Herald had exposed the State government’s efforts to set up a censor board to censor the popular tiatrs and nataks, following a demand from some right wing Hindu organization. There were widespread protests by theatre groups and political opponents in the State, decrying and opposing such a move.
