PANJIM: Congress has demanded the government meets and listens to the grievances of taxi owners and find an amicable solution to the problems of the tourist taxi community in the State.
After meeting the representatives of various tourist taxi associations in the State, from North as well as South, Leader of opposition Chandrakant Babu Kavalekar, said tourist taxi owners are upset as none of the politicians from the ruling dispensation have heard them.
“Their biggest grievance today is that despite the issue being raised for so many months, neither a minister nor an MLA from the ruling side has given them attention. None of the ministers have the time to give them an appointment and listen to their grievances”, he stated.
Kavalekar opined that the root of the problem is the Goans involved in the tourist taxi business over generations, are now feeling insecure that their livelihood is at stake due to the government backed GoaMiles app.
Meanwhile, Curtorim MLA Alexio Reginaldo Lourenco questioned the government’s motive in coming up with a scheme exclusively for purchasing of vehicles to join GoaMiles.
Reginaldo further said that despite RTI applications, the tourist taxi associations have not been provided with the details requested. He clarified that he is not a representative of any taxi association but supporting Goans involved in the traditional business.
“We welcome technology but not at the cost of the Goans,” he added.
